Product description

Chrome Infrared Sensor Tap – Hands-Free Mono Basin Tap for Hygienic Washrooms

The Deva infrared sensor tap is a touch-free mono basin tap in polished chrome: a plain round column, no lever, no handle, and a sensor window set into the face of the spout. Visually it is the quietest tap in our range — with nothing to grip, it reads as a single clean cylinder, which is why it suits minimal washrooms and commercial fit-outs.

Water runs when hands enter the 7–23 cm detection zone and stops within a second of them leaving. Nobody touches the tap, so nothing is transferred between users, and nothing is left running by a distracted child or a busy kitchen. In practice that combination — hygiene plus automatic shut-off — is what most people buy a sensor tap for.

The body is solid brass with a chrome finish, the sensor window is vandal- and scratch-resistant, and the control unit is moisture-resistant, which is what lets this chrome basin tap survive settings that a domestic tap would not. It is WRAS approved and specified across Ireland in hotels, restaurants, clinics and public washrooms as well as in private bathrooms.

Two things to check before ordering. First, it needs 0.5–5.0 bar — high-pressure or combi only, not a gravity-fed cylinder. Second, it delivers cold or pre-blended water at a temperature set during installation, not adjusted at the tap, so a hot supply must be tempered upstream; we do not stock under-basin blending valves, and your plumber will source one. A basin waste is not included either, though we do stock matching chrome wastes.

Features & Benefits

  • Infrared sensor tap activation – hands-free operation with no handle to touch and nothing to cross-contaminate.
  • 7–23 cm detection zone – close enough to avoid false triggers from passing traffic, wide enough to catch hands naturally.
  • Sub-second response – water arrives as soon as hands are presented, so it never feels like waiting on a machine.
  • Automatic shut-off – runs only while hands are underneath, which is where the water saving comes from.
  • Solid brass body with polished chrome finish – corrosion-resistant and easy to wipe down.
  • Vandal- and scratch-resistant sensor window – built for public washrooms, not only quiet family bathrooms.
  • Moisture-resistant control unit – protects the electronics in a permanently damp environment.
  • Mains powered with battery back-up – AC 220–240 V with a 4 × AA holder, or run on batteries alone where no supply is nearby.
  • WRAS approved – meets the water regulations that apply to Irish mains supplies.
  • 2-year Deva guarantee – shorter than Deva's 12-year cover on mechanical taps, which reflects the electronics rather than the brassware.

Why Choose the Chrome Infrared Sensor Tap?

Chrome is the only finish this sensor tap comes in, and it is the right one for the job — the tap is specified as much for washrooms as for homes, and chrome is the neutral that matches existing commercial sanitaryware without a conversation about schemes. There is no matt black or brushed brass sensor tap in the range.

At €95 this is the most expensive basin tap we sell, and the money buys the electronics rather than better brassware. If hands-free is not the point, the genuine alternative is a conventional lever mixer: the Ethos chrome basin mixer is solid brass, costs a good deal less and includes its own press-top waste, while the Adore Mini is the smallest and cheapest chrome basin tap we stock and also ships with a waste. For something between the two, the Spear chrome waterfall basin mixer is the popular middle option. Choose the sensor tap when touch-free operation or water metering genuinely matters; choose a lever mixer when it does not.

No waste is supplied with this tap, so add a chrome slotted basin waste if your basin has an overflow, or the unslotted version if it does not. We deliver across the Republic of Ireland — Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford and every county between — free over €100 and usually in 2–3 working days, with same-day Dublin collection by arrangement on stocked items. FAQ
How is it powered?
Battery or mains, depending on how you install it. Battery is simpler because it needs no electrical work near the basin, and cells typically last a long time in domestic use where the tap runs a few times a day rather than constantly. Mains suits a busy setting where you would rather not think about batteries at all.
Is a sensor tap worth it in a home bathroom?
It depends what you want from it. The genuine benefits are hygiene - nobody touches the tap with dirty or soapy hands - and water saving, since it runs only while hands are underneath. Households with young children often find it stops taps being left running. If you simply want a good basin tap, a conventional mixer like the Ethos costs considerably less and includes a waste.
Can I control the temperature?
Sensor taps of this type deliver a pre-set temperature rather than being adjusted each time you use them - you set the blend at installation. That is normal for infrared taps and is part of why they are common in commercial washrooms. If you want to vary hot and cold at the tap itself, choose a lever mixer instead.
Is it suitable for drinking water?
Yes - WRAS approved with a solid brass body, meeting UK and Irish water regulations for mains-fed supplies. Made by Deva.
Is a waste included?
No. Add a chrome slotted waste for a basin with an overflow, or the unslotted version without. See all basin mixer taps.
