Bathroom Heating — Radiator Valves and Pipe Covers for Irish Bathrooms

The fittings around a bathroom radiator rather than the radiator itself: radiator valves in matched pairs, snap-on pipe covers for the bare copper tails, and a flow diverter for a radiator that heats unevenly. All sized 15 mm × ½″ BSP, the domestic standard in Ireland, in chrome, matt black, anthracite and brushed brass.

This is the detail a bathroom refit almost always misses. New tiles, new tap, new waste — and then a bright copper pipe and a white plastic valve head under a black towel radiator. It is at eye level when you are sitting down, and none of it is difficult to change.

Radiator valves

Choose angled where the pipe comes out of the wall and straight where it rises from the floor. Check the existing valve before ordering — swapping like for like is the safe route.

• Angled thermostatic valve pack in matt black — stops a small bathroom overheating and cuts fuel use.
• Angled manual valve pack in matt black and anthracite — anthracite suits the grey radiators common in Irish new builds.
• Straight manual valve pack in brushed brass — for floor-fed pipework in a warm-toned scheme.

One caveat on thermostatic valves: do not fit one in the room that holds the main house thermostat, where a TRV can fight the boiler control. In a typical bathroom with a towel radiator, a TRV is the right choice.

Pipe covers

Enzo chrome and Enzo matt black covers and collars clip around existing 15 mm pipe. No draining down, no plumber, roughly five minutes per radiator, and they hide both the pipe run and the untidy gap where it meets the floor.

A radiator hot at one end

If it is properly bled and still cool at the far end, the Milano 15 mm flow diverter pushes incoming water further along instead of letting it short-circuit to the outlet. A simpler first move than rebalancing the system or replacing the radiator.

Matching the finish

Take the finish from the taps, so the radiator stops being the one chrome object in an otherwise black bathroom. Pair these with matt black bathroom taps or chrome bathroom taps and a matching waste.
