FAQ
Manual or thermostatic - which should I choose?
Manual is an on-off tap for the radiator: you set the flow and it stays there. It is the right choice where you rarely adjust the heat, or in the room containing your main thermostat, where a TRV would fight the boiler control. Everywhere else, a thermostatic valve saves fuel by throttling back once the room is warm.
Angled or straight?
Angled, if your pipework rises from the floor and the radiator inlet faces sideways - the most common Irish arrangement. If the pipe emerges from the wall in line with the inlet, you need straight valves. Check the existing valve before ordering.
Will fitting these affect my radiator's own guarantee?
It should not. Radiator and towel rail guarantees generally cover the radiator itself and are not voided by using a third-party valve, provided it meets the relevant standard and is fitted competently - this pack is made to EN 1074-2:2000 by ELLSI, which also sells it under its own ETAL trademark. Two things that can affect a claim, whichever valve you buy: having the work done by someone unqualified, and draining or refilling the system without inhibitor. Check the wording that came with your radiator if it was an expensive designer one, and keep the receipt for these.
What is the difference between black and anthracite?
Anthracite is a dark grey with a slight blue undertone; matt black is a true black. Anthracite radiators are extremely common in modern Irish homes, and a true black valve against an anthracite radiator can read as a mismatch. This pack covers both so you can pick what sits right against your radiator.
Will it fit my pipework?
Sized for 15 mm copper pipe with a 1/2 inch radiator connection, the domestic standard in Ireland. Not suitable for 10 mm microbore without adaptors.
What finishes the job?
Black pipe covers and collars hide the bare copper tails between floor and valve - the detail that spoils an otherwise tidy radiator. Five minutes per radiator, no draining down.
