FAQ
Do I need straight or angled valves?
Straight, if the pipe comes out of the wall in line with the radiator inlet. Angled, if the pipe rises from the floor and the inlet faces sideways - which is the more common Irish arrangement, so check before ordering. We stock angled manual valves too.
The ETAL valve range all looks the same in photos - how do I order the right one?
By part number, because the photographs genuinely will not tell them apart. ETAL is ELLSI's own trademark and the ECO valve range runs to dozens of near-identical variants across both badges - angled and straight, manual and thermostatic, four finishes - and from the front they are almost indistinguishable. This pack is PDT-001610: straight, manual, brushed brass, a pair. Three things decide whether it fits: the angle, the valve type and the pipe size. Get those right and the finish is the easy part.
Why brushed brass on a radiator valve?
Because a chrome valve looks out of place in a room where the taps, handles and fittings are brass. Radiator valves are at eye level when you are sitting down and are one of the last things people think to match. If your bathroom or kitchen uses brushed brass, this closes the gap.
Manual rather than thermostatic - is that a downgrade?
Not necessarily. Manual valves are simpler, cheaper and have less to fail. They are also the correct choice in the room containing your main thermostat, where a thermostatic valve would work against the boiler control. Elsewhere a TRV will save fuel in rooms that overheat.
Will it fit my pipework?
15 mm copper pipe with a 1/2 inch radiator connection - the Irish domestic standard. Not suitable for 10 mm microbore without adaptors. Measure the outside diameter if unsure.
How do I care for the brass finish?
Soft damp cloth, dry afterwards. Avoid abrasives and harsh cleaners, which strip the lacquer. Radiator valves get less cleaning attention than taps, which works in their favour here.
