Touchless soap dispenser

The automatic soap dispenser is the one accessory here that earns its place on function rather than finish. Raw chicken, egg, flour, oil, paint — the moments you most need soap are the moments you least want to touch a pump, and a manual dispenser ends up coated in exactly what you were trying to wash off. An infrared sensor under the spout breaks that loop.

It holds 400 ml, runs on a USB-rechargeable battery rather than disposable cells, and doses through four settings from 0.3 to 2.0 seconds — the longer settings suit washing-up liquid at a sink. No-drill wall hooks

Rated to 7 kg each and available in stainless steel, matt black and brushed brass, sold in packs of four. That handles tea towels, oven gloves, aprons and light utensils.

They hold on clean, smooth, non-porous surfaces — tile splashbacks, gloss cabinet doors, glass, sealed paint. One kitchen-specific warning that applies equally to the dispenser's adhesive plate: kitchen walls carry a thin film of cooking oil that defeats adhesive. Degrease with alcohol before fitting, press firmly, and leave 24 hours before hanging anything. They will not hold on textured wallpaper or bare plaster.

Tidying radiator pipework
