The two wall-mounted units are screw-fixed rather than adhesive, and that is deliberate rather than a cost saving. A pump is pressed several times a day, and repeated downward force is exactly the load adhesive pads fail at over time. The automatic dispenser is the exception that proves it — it is never pressed, so an adhesive plate is entirely adequate.

Second: how often do you want to refill it? The frosted glass wall dispenser holds 200 ml, which is compact and suits a cloakroom or a second bathroom. The glass set and the automatic both hold 400 ml — a whole small bottle of hand soap in one go, which is a different experience on a family bathroom or kitchen sink.

Honest notes on materials

Worth saying plainly, because it is the sort of thing that is discovered after delivery otherwise. None of these has a solid brass pump. The matt black unit has a stainless steel body with a black plastic pump. The gold pump on the cut glass set is plated ABS — plastic under the finish. The silver pump on the frosted glass dispenser is chrome-finished plastic. The bodies are the substantial parts: steel and glass. Each product page says the same thing in its own specification table.

In practice this matters less than it sounds, because a pump mechanism is a moving part and plastic outlasts plated metal in a wet room more often than not. But it is the difference between these and a solid brass fitting, and it is reflected in what they cost.

Refilling and cleaning

All four are refillable and none takes a proprietary cartridge — they accept any liquid hand soap, washing-up liquid or hand lotion. The one caution applies to the automatic dispenser: a sensor pump has far less force behind it than your thumb, so a genuinely thick cream soap wants thinning with a little warm water. Never put a soap containing beads or exfoliating grit through any pump.

For cleaning, keep abrasives away from every one of them. Plated and coated finishes scratch, and once the plating is through at an edge it cannot be brought back.
