Soap dispensers

The newest part of the range and the one with the most genuine choice in it. Between the four, the question that narrows it fastest is whether you can drill: the cut glass set stands on the basin and the touchless automatic stands or sticks on, while the two wall-mounted pumps are screw-fixed. No-drill wall hooks

Adhesive, rated to 7 kg each, sold in packs of four, in stainless steel, matt black and brushed brass.

They hold on clean, smooth, non-porous surfaces — tile, glass, sealed paint, gloss laminate. Not on textured wallpaper, bare plaster or damp untreated wood. Two things make the difference between a hook that lasts years and one that falls off in a week: degrease the surface with alcohol first, and leave it 24 hours before hanging anything. In a kitchen this matters more than people expect, because walls carry a thin film of cooking oil that defeats adhesive.

The appeal is obvious in a tiled bathroom or a rented flat — no drilling, no cracked tile, no hole to fill later, and they come off cleanly when you move.

Roll holders, rings and rails

Toilet roll holders come in chrome, matt black and brushed brass — compare all three on the toilet roll holders page, which also covers mounting height. Towel rings come in matt black and brushed brass.

A ring takes one hand towel and needs very little wall, so it suits a cloakroom or the space beside a basin. The 450 mm Alpha rail holds a bath towel open so it actually dries — which matters in a damp Irish bathroom, where a folded towel on a ring stays wet until evening. Most bathrooms want both.

These are screw-fixed rather than adhesive, because they take repeated sideways pull that adhesive will not survive long term.

Care and delivery

Clean with a soft damp cloth and dry afterwards; mild soapy water if needed. Never bleach, limescale remover or an abrasive pad — those strip coated finishes. In hard-water areas around Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow, drying after use does more than any cleaner.
