FAQ
What does a thermostatic radiator valve actually save?
It closes the valve once the room reaches your set temperature instead of heating it indefinitely. The saving is real in rooms that overheat - bedrooms, spare rooms, halls - and negligible in a room you keep at full heat anyway. One caveat: do not fit a TRV in the room containing your main thermostat, as the two will fight each other.
Angled or straight - which do I need?
Angled, if your pipework rises from the floor and the radiator inlet faces sideways, which is the most common Irish arrangement. If the pipe comes out of the wall in line with the inlet, you need straight valves. Look at the existing valve before ordering - swapping like for like is safest.
I already have an ETAL valve on another radiator - are the heads interchangeable?
Yes. ETAL is ELLSI's own registered trademark, so an ETAL-badged TRV and this one are the same valve, part PDT-001597. More usefully, thermostatic heads across the industry generally use the same M30 x 1.5 collar, so heads swap between most makes, not just these two. That matters if you are doing one radiator at a time over several months - you are not locking yourself into a single supplier by starting here.
Why is it more expensive than the manual valves?
The thermostatic head contains a temperature-sensing element and a mechanism to throttle flow, where a manual valve is essentially an on-off tap. If you adjust radiators rarely and set-and-forget, manual is fine and cheaper. If a room routinely overheats, the TRV pays for itself.
Will it fit my pipework?
It is sized for 15 mm copper pipe with a 1/2 inch radiator connection - the domestic standard in Ireland. If your house uses 10 mm microbore, common in some 1980s installations, you will need adaptors. Measure the outside diameter of the pipe if unsure.
What else matches in black?
Enzo black pipe covers hide the bare copper below the valve, which is what most people notice once the valve itself looks right. See the full heating range.
