Chrome Newton Thermostatic Shower Valve – Concealed TMV2 Control, Stable Temperature

The Deva Newton is a concealed thermostatic shower valve that puts nothing on the wall but a polished chrome plate and two controls. The valve body is buried in the wall, which is why it looks so clean: no exposed pipework, no bar valve sitting proud of the tiles, just a flush faceplate and a pair of levers.

The two controls are concentric and do separate jobs — one sets flow, the other sets temperature — so you can turn the shower off and back on again at the same heat rather than hunting for it each time. The 38 °C safety stop takes a deliberate press to pass, which is what makes this valve sensible in a family bathroom or anywhere older relatives shower.

Inside, a thermostatic cartridge sits in a solid brass body and holds the set temperature when the supply moves under it — a toilet flushing, a kitchen tap running, the boiler cycling. It also shuts the shower down if the cold supply fails. For Irish homes on a gravity-fed cylinder this concealed shower valve is rated from 0.2 bar, low enough to work where many thermostatic valves will not.

One thing to be clear about before ordering: concealed means the wall has to be opened up. This is a valve for a bathroom being retiled or built, not a Saturday swap. It is WRAS and TMV2 approved, takes ¾″ inlets and feeds a single outlet, so you will also need a shower head and hose or a rail kit. We do not stock shower wastes, fixed shower arms or shower trays — the valve, a rail kit and your existing drainage is the usual combination.

Features & Benefits

  • Thermostatic shower valve control – holds the set temperature when other outlets in the house are used.
  • 38 °C safety stop – guards against scalding, with a deliberate override for a hotter shower.
  • Automatic cold-failure shut-off – the shower stops rather than running hot if the cold supply drops.
  • Concealed chrome faceplate – valve body hidden in the wall, only a flush plate and two controls on show.
  • Separate flow and temperature controls – switch the shower off and back on without resetting the heat.
  • Solid brass body – corrosion-resistant and rebuildable, rather than a sealed plastic cartridge housing.
  • Works from 0.2 bar – suits gravity-fed Irish cylinder systems as well as high-pressure mains and combi supplies.
  • Flow rate up to 38.2 L/min – enough to drive a large single-outlet head at mains pressure.
  • WRAS and TMV2 approved – certified to the standard that governs thermostatic mixing in domestic settings.
  • 5-year Deva guarantee – terms vary by manufacturer across our catalogue rather than by quality tier; Deva backs its taps for 12 years and its valves for 5.

Why Choose the Chrome Newton Thermostatic Shower Valve?

Chrome is the only finish we stock this valve in, and for a concealed valve that is less of a compromise than it sounds — the faceplate is the only visible part, and chrome sits quietly against almost any tile. If you want a matt black shower, the matt black slide rail kit is where the finish shows, and it will run happily from a chrome valve behind the wall.

This valve is the top of our shower range at €95, and the step down is a large one: a chrome slide rail shower kit connects to an existing outlet for a fraction of the cost and needs no building work at all. That is the genuine alternative — choose the concealed Newton if the bathroom is being retiled anyway and you want thermostatic safety, and the rail kit if you want a better shower this weekend. If the shower is over a bath rather than in a cubicle, skip the valve entirely: the Victorian Tudor bath shower mixer and the Kinlin chrome waterfall bath shower mixer both include a diverter, handset and hose, so no separate valve is needed.

FAQ
What does thermostatic actually do?
It holds the temperature you set even when the water supply changes - someone runs a kitchen tap, a toilet flushes, the boiler cycles. It also shuts off automatically if the cold supply fails, which is the anti-scald protection that makes it the right choice for family bathrooms and anywhere children or older relatives shower.
What does concealed mean, and can I fit it to an existing bathroom?
The valve body sits inside the wall with only the control plate visible, which gives a clean look but means the wall has to be opened up. It suits a bathroom being retiled or built rather than a quick swap. If you want a simpler upgrade with no building work, a slide rail kit connects to your existing outlet.
What is TMV2 and do I need it?
TMV2 is the standard for thermostatic mixing valves in domestic settings, certifying that the valve limits outlet temperature reliably. It is what underpins the 38 degree safety stop. You do not legally need it in a private home, but it is the reason this valve behaves predictably rather than merely blending hot and cold.
Will it work on low water pressure?
It is rated for both low and high pressure systems, so it suits gravity-fed cylinders as well as combi boilers. Bear in mind that a thermostatic valve needs both hot and cold arriving at broadly similar pressure to regulate properly - an unbalanced supply is the usual cause of temperature wander.
What do I connect to it?
A shower head and hose, or a rail kit. We stock slide rail kits in chrome and matt black. See all showers and valves.
