How do I check whether my basin needs slotted or unslotted?
Look inside the bowl, near the top. A small oval or rectangular opening is the overflow. If it is there, order slotted - the waste has a matching opening in its side that lets that water reach the drain. If the bowl is smooth all the way round, order unslotted. It takes ten seconds and it is the reason most basin wastes get returned.
Which basins usually have no overflow?
Counter-top and vessel basins, the kind that sit on a vanity unit rather than being set into it, very often have none. So do many minimalist designs, where the overflow is left out deliberately. Traditional pedestal and semi-recessed basins almost always have one. That is a useful rule of thumb rather than a guarantee, so still check the bowl.
60 mm, 66 mm or 70 mm - which cap size?
They all drop into the same 45 mm hole; the difference is how much of the surrounding ceramic the visible cap covers. 60 mm suits most modern basins. 70 mm suits thicker ceramic where the opening is wider at the top. 66 mm exists for basins that sit awkwardly between the two. Measure the visible opening and match it up rather than guessing from the old plug.
Why would I choose the white ceramic ones?
Because they disappear. A metal waste is always a visible disc in the middle of a white bowl, whereas a ceramic cap reads as part of the basin. It also removes the finish-matching problem entirely - a ceramic waste sits happily under a chrome, black or brass tap, which is useful if your tap came from somewhere else or you plan to change it later.
Which basin taps do these match?
Our basin mixer taps come in the same chrome, matt black and brushed brass, and no ELLSI tap includes a waste. The Deva Ethos and Adore Mini are the exceptions and arrive with theirs.
Is a trap included?
No, and you probably do not need one. The trap is the U-bend below the basin; if the existing one is sound it can be reused when the waste above it is changed. We do not stock traps. The threaded tail here fits standard Irish bottle traps and U-bends.
