Product description

Stroud Matt Black Kitchen Tap – Twin Lever Control, Squared Spout

Sold as the Stroud and made by ELLSI as the Eben, this black kitchen tap pairs a squared L-shaped spout with two slim quarter-turn levers. The matt coating is the reason to pick it over chrome: it absorbs light rather than reflecting it, so the tap reads as a deliberate dark line against a pale worktop instead of a mirror that shows every splash.

Twin levers mean a hot side and a cold side. It is the arrangement that suits a kitchen with any traditional leaning, and on the Eben the squared body keeps it from looking dated — a modern silhouette operated the old way.

Each lever turns ninety degrees from off to full on a ceramic disc cartridge. There is no washer to perish, so the drip that arrives on cheaper taps after a few years simply does not. The spout swivels a full 360° to clear a second bowl.

Check your water pressure before ordering: the Eben needs 1 bar minimum and will not work on a gravity-fed system. If your hot water comes from a cylinder in the hot press rather than a combi boiler, look at the alternatives linked below instead. It stands 330 mm tall with a 200 mm spout reach.

Features & Benefits

  • Matt black finish – hides water spots and fingerprints in a way polished chrome never manages around a busy sink.
  • Twin lever control – separate hot and cold, each a quarter turn from off to full.
  • Quarter-turn ceramic discs – smooth, drip-free operation with no washers to perish.
  • Squared L-shaped spout – architectural lines with generous clearance for filling tall pots.
  • 360° swivel spout – clears a second bowl or swings back against the splashback.
  • Solid brass body – substantial in the hand and built for daily use.
  • Flow straightener – a controlled stream with less splashing in a shallow sink.
  • Deck mounted, single tap hole – usually a direct swap for an existing mono mixer.
  • Flexible tap tails included – 600 mm hoses supplied, ready to connect.
  • 2 year manufacturer guarantee – handled by us here in Ireland.

Why Choose a Black Kitchen Tap?

Black is the finish that commits. It coordinates with black sinks, cabinet handles and appliances, and it gives a kitchen a designed look rather than a fitted one. The practical argument is just as strong: matt black hides the constant water spotting that catches the eye on chrome, so it looks acceptable for longer between wipes.

The trade-off is cleaning products. A matt coating will not tolerate bleach, limescale remover or an abrasive cream, and once dulled it cannot be brought back. If someone else in the house does the cleaning, that is worth knowing before you choose it.

The same Eben body is available in brushed brass and chrome. For a black tap with one-handed control, the Tivoli in matt black is a single lever swan neck at a lower price that also works from 0.5 bar. For a pull-out spray in black, see the Cato. Kitchen sink wastes are not part of our range, so a waste is not included.

FAQ
Will it work with my water pressure?
Only on a pressurised system. The Eben needs 1 bar minimum and will not work on gravity-fed water, so if your hot water comes from a cylinder in the hot press rather than a combi boiler or pressurised mains, this is not the tap. The Tivoli in matt black runs from 0.5 bar and is the safer choice there. Worth two minutes before ordering rather than after fitting.
Does the ETAL Stroud come in matt black, or is that a different tap?
Same tap, same range. ETAL is ELLSI's own registered trademark rather than a separate maker, and the Eben body is produced in matt black, chrome and brushed brass across both badges - PDT-000403 is the matt black one. What varies is which finishes a given shop chooses to stock, so a retailer listing only the brass version does not mean the black one does not exist. We hold all three. If you have seen a Stroud elsewhere in a finish we are not showing, ask us and we will check whether ELLSI can supply it.
How do I clean it without ruining the finish?
Soft damp cloth, then dry it. Mild soapy water at most. Never bleach, limescale remover, abrasive cream or a scouring pad - these dull the matt coating permanently and it cannot be restored. In hard water areas around Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow, drying the tap after use does more than any cleaner. The upside is that matt black hides water spots far better than chrome does day to day.
Twin lever or single lever?
Twin levers give you a hot side and a cold side, which many people prefer and which suits a kitchen with any traditional leaning. A single lever blends both on one handle so you can adjust it one-handed while holding a pan. Neither is better made - the Eben uses quarter-turn ceramic discs either way. Choose on how you actually use the sink rather than on looks alone.
What else can I match it to in black?
We stock matt black across bathroom taps, basin wastes, bath wastes and accessories such as towel rings and roll holders. Kitchen sink wastes are not part of our range.
Will it fit my sink, and what is included?
Deck mounted into a single tap hole, so normally a direct swap for an existing mono mixer. Supplied with two 600 mm flexible tails and a fixing kit; no waste. Check you have 330 mm of clearance above the worktop, particularly under a window that opens inwards.
