Product description

Matt Black Pull Out Kitchen Tap – Spring Coil Neck, Two-Mode Spray Head

The Contra takes the spring-neck shape you see over restaurant sinks and finishes it in matt black, which is what makes it work in a home kitchen. A coil in bright chrome reads as equipment; in black it reads as one dark line drawn above the sink. This black pull out kitchen tap stands 520 mm tall, so it is the first thing the eye lands on at the sink — choose it for that.

The spray head sits in a holder at the end of a side arm. Lift it out and the spring neck follows your hand on its hose, so you can rinse a roasting tin, wash down the far corner of the bowl or fill a pan standing on the drainer. A switch on the head changes between a straight stream for filling and a wide spray for rinsing, and a single quarter-turn lever sets flow and temperature.

Under the matt coating is a body of brass, stainless steel and zinc, with a 35 mm ceramic cartridge and a flow straightener at the outlet for a clean, low-splash stream. It is a black kitchen tap with a commercial-style silhouette that still fits an ordinary Irish kitchen without moving any pipework: one tap hole, standard G ½" flexible tails.

Check two things before ordering. ELLSI rates the Contra from 1 bar to 3 bar and marks it not suitable for gravity-fed systems, so it needs a combi boiler or pressurised mains rather than a cylinder in the hot press. And at 520 mm it needs clear height above the deck — measure to any shelf, extractor or window that opens inwards.

Features & Benefits

  • Spring coil neck – the professional-kitchen look, made graphic rather than industrial by the matt black finish.
  • Pull-out spray head – lifts from its holder so the water goes to the job, not the other way round.
  • Two-function head – a stream for filling pans and kettles, a spray for rinsing plates and the bowl.
  • Single lever, quarter turn – flow and temperature from one handle, off to full in a short movement.
  • 35 mm ceramic cartridge – drip-free, with no washers to perish.
  • Flow straightener – a smooth stream that does not splash out of a shallow bowl.
  • 520 mm tall with 220 mm reach – room for deep pots and reach across a large single bowl.
  • Matt black finish – hides the water spots and fingerprints that show straight away on polished metal.
  • Single tap hole, deck mounted – supplied with 600 mm G ½" flexible tails.
  • 2 year manufacturer guarantee – handled here in Ireland.

Why Choose a Matt Black Pull Out Kitchen Tap?

Because black is the finish that makes a spring tap look designed rather than borrowed from a catering supplier. It ties in with a black sink, black cabinet handles or a dark worktop, and against white quartz it becomes a deliberate line. The practical case is just as strong: matt black hides the water spotting a busy sink leaves on polished metal. The coating does ask for gentle cleaning — a damp cloth and a dry-off, never bleach, limescale remover or an abrasive pad.

If you like the spray head but not the height, the Cato in matt black keeps a lower curved spout with the head built into its tip. For a fixed spout, the Tivoli in matt black is a slim single lever swan neck and the Stroud in matt black puts twin levers on a squared spout — both also need 1 bar. On a gravity-fed supply, the Adria in matt black runs from 0.5 bar. For filtered boiling water as well as a spray head, the Cygne in matt black is a pull out hot water tap with its own corner tank. The Contra itself is also made in brushed brass and brushed steel.

FAQ
Will it work on my water pressure?
Only on a pressurised supply. ELLSI rates the Contra from 1 bar to 3 bar and marks it not suitable for gravity-fed systems, because the spray head needs pressure behind it. A combi boiler or pressurised mains is fine; a cylinder in the hot press fed from an attic tank is not. On a gravity system the Adria in matt black runs from 0.5 bar, and our water pressure guide shows how to check what you have.
What is a spring neck kitchen tap?
A tap whose spout is a flexible hose held inside an open spring coil - the shape used over commercial pre-rinse sinks. The coil keeps the hose in shape, lets it bend when you lift the spray head out of its holder, and springs it back when you put it down. At home it gives you the reach of a pull-out with a more architectural look, and in matt black the coil reads as a single graphic line rather than catering equipment.
Is the ELLSI Contra the same tap as the ETAL Contra?
Yes. ETAL is ELLSI's own registered trademark, and the matt black Contra is part number PDT-000592 under either name. The compliance paperwork confirms it: ELLSI's datasheet lists the tap against EN 817:2008 under declaration of conformity DOC-KT-1016A, and that document belongs to the product, not to the badge on the box. If a plumber or another listing quotes an ETAL Contra in matt black, match that part number.
Will it fit my sink, and what comes in the box?
It deck mounts through a single tap hole on a 54 mm base, so it normally replaces an existing mono mixer. In the box are the tap, a pair of 600 mm G 1/2 inch flexible tails and a fixing kit; a waste is not included. The measurement that matters is height: at 520 mm, check the clearance to any shelf, extractor or window above the sink.
How do I look after the matt black finish?
Soft damp cloth, then dry it; mild soapy water if needed. Keep bleach, limescale remover, abrasive creams and scouring pads well away - they dull a matt coating permanently. Treat the coil the same as the body. In a hard-water area, water left sitting between the turns is what leaves white marks, so a quick wipe after a big wash-up keeps it properly black.
Should I choose this or the Cato black pull-out?
Choose by height and look. The Contra is 520 mm tall with an open spring neck and a side-arm holder - a statement tap for a deep single bowl or an island. The Cato in matt black is lower, with a curved spout and the spray head built into its tip, so it sits more quietly under wall units. Both need 1 bar. Our pull-out vs pull-down guide covers which style suits shallow, deep and double bowls.
