Chrome Kitchen Sink Strainer Waste – 90mm Basket Strainer That Fits From Above

The kitchen sink strainer is the part of the sink you deal with every day: it catches peelings, rice and tea leaves before they reach the trap, and lifts out to empty into the bin. This one is finished in polished stainless steel, the bright chrome-look surface that sits flush and unremarkable in a stainless sink — which is exactly what most people want from a waste.

What makes it different is how it goes in. Top-Fix, ELLSI's daughter brand for kitchen wastes, uses a patented fitting system: you drop the waste into the 90 mm hole from above, then tighten a single nut through the centre with the 14 mm socket tool in the box. The rubber seal is already fitted, so there is no silicone to smear on, no putty, and nobody lying in the cupboard holding a backnut while someone else turns the strainer.

The flange and basket are stainless steel and the body is polypropylene, which will not corrode in a cupboard that stays damp. Underneath, the 40 mm (1 ½") outlet connects to the standard trap used under an Irish kitchen sink, so it is a like-for-like strainer waste swap rather than a re-plumb — whether you call it a waste or a kitchen sink drain.

Two checks before ordering. This version has no overflow connection, so it suits sinks without an overflow hole near the rim — if your sink has one, choose the chrome waste kit with overflow instead. And the sink needs to be between 0.5 mm and 15 mm thick at the waste hole, which covers stainless steel sinks comfortably.

Why Choose a Chrome Kitchen Sink Strainer?

Because a waste is the one fitting that should disappear. Polished steel matches a stainless sink and every chrome tap above it, and because the surface is the steel itself rather than a coating, ordinary washing-up liquid and a scourer-free cloth keep it bright for years. The Tivoli in chrome, Cato in chrome and Luxus in chrome all sit naturally above it.

The same Top-Fix waste also comes in matt black, brushed brass and antique brass, each with or without an overflow kit. Compare them all in kitchen sink wastes, and if you are fitting out the whole sink area, our kitchen setup guide covers what else is worth checking.

We ship kitchen sink strainers across Ireland — Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford and everywhere between — with free delivery on orders over €100 and same-day Dublin collection on stocked items by arrangement.

FAQ
Does my sink need the overflow version instead?
Look along the back of the bowl, just below the rim. If there is a small round hole or a slotted opening there, the sink has an overflow and needs a waste that connects to it - choose the chrome kitchen sink waste kit with overflow. If the bowl has no hole, this version is the right one, and there is nothing extra to fit.
Are kitchen sink wastes a standard size?
Largely, yes. Most kitchen sinks in Ireland are cut for a 90 mm basket strainer waste, and the outlet underneath is 40 mm (1 1/2 inch). Measure the hole in the sink itself, not the old flange, which is wider. This waste needs a 90 mm hole and a sink between 0.5 mm and 15 mm thick.
Is a kitchen sink waste 32 mm or 40 mm?
40 mm. The 32 mm (1 1/4 inch) size belongs to bathroom basins. A kitchen sink drains more water at once and carries food debris, so it uses the larger 40 mm (1 1/2 inch) pipe and trap, which is what this waste connects to.
Do I need to take the sink out to replace the waste?
No. Disconnect the trap underneath, undo the old waste and lift it out. The Top-Fix waste then drops into the hole from above and is tightened from inside the bowl with the supplied tool, so you are not working blind under the sink. Reconnect the trap and run water to check the joints.
Is this the same as the ETAL sink strainer waste?
No - they are two different products from the same maker. ELLSI sells conventional strainer wastes under its ETAL label; this one is ELLSI's Top-Fix version, which fits and tightens from above. Check the code: this chrome Top-Fix waste is PDT-000528.
