Product description

Matt Black Basin Tap – Lanza Square Body, Ceramic Disc Control

The ELLSI Lanza in matt black is a square basin tap drawn entirely in straight lines. A square column rises from a rectangular base plate, the spout projects flat from the front, and a slim rectangular lever lies along the top rather than out to one side. The coating is deep and flat with no shine, so against a white basin it reads as a drawn line rather than an object — which is the whole appeal of black brassware.

The lever is top-mounted: lift for volume, swing for temperature, one-handed. The flat blade gives more to push against than a round knob, so it works with a knuckle or the back of a wet hand. Underneath it a ceramic disc cartridge keeps the action light and the shut-off clean, instead of stiffening and weeping the way washer taps do after a few years.

Under the coating the body is solid brass, not plated zinc. On a coloured finish that matters twice over: a soft substrate lets the coating chip at the base, and a chip in matt black exposes a bright edge that cannot be touched up. Hard water runs through much of the Irish midlands and east, so how a tap is built decides how it looks in five years. ELLSI back it for 2 years.

It fits a single tap hole, deck-mounted, and arrives with flexible braided connectors so it drops into existing pipework. It runs from 0.5 bar to 3 bar and moves 20.8 L/min, so a gravity-fed hot press cylinder will drive it, though flow is better above 1 bar. Two things to be plain about: no waste is supplied — we stock matt black basin wastes separately — and we do not stock traps or rod-operated pop-up wastes at all, so a sound existing trap should be reused.

Features & Benefits

  • Matt black basin tap in solid brass – a brass body under the coating, not plated zinc, so it does not chip at the base.
  • Square column and flat lever – straight lines throughout, matching rectangular basins and square-edged tiling.
  • Deep flat matt coating – no shine, reading as a drawn line against pale sanitaryware.
  • Top-mounted blade lever – more surface to push against than a round knob, workable with a wet hand.
  • Ceramic disc cartridge – light action and a clean shut-off that resists the slow drip.
  • Works from 0.5 bar – runs on a gravity-fed hot press cylinder as well as combi and mains supplies.
  • 20.8 L/min flow rate – strong for a basin tap, though best above 1 bar.
  • Hides fingerprints – matt black shows far less than gloss, though it marks with dried water spots in hard water areas.
  • Flexible braided connectors supplied – a straightforward swap for most existing mono mixers.
  • 2-year ELLSI guarantee – guarantee terms differ by manufacturer across our catalogue rather than by quality tier; 2 years is ELLSI's standard on taps.

Why Choose the Matt Black Lanza Basin Tap?

Matt black only works when it repeats. One black item in an otherwise chrome bathroom reads as an accident; a tap, a waste and a roll holder read as a decision. The single most common mismatch we see is a black tap sitting above a chrome plug, and the two are close enough together that it is always noticed. The same square Lanza body is made in brushed brass and polished chrome, so the shape can stay while the finish changes.

At €64 the Lanza sits at the top of our black basin taps, level with the Ethos matt black — and the Ethos includes its own matching black waste, which is worth weighing if you have not bought one yet. The identical body in polished chrome is €59, so if black is a preference rather than a fixed part of the scheme, the same tap costs less in chrome. Below them, the Spear matt black waterfall is €49 and the Kinlin matt black waterfall is €60. Those waterfalls are the genuine alternative: an open cascade spout is the more dramatic object, but it needs around 1 bar to look right and suits a rounded basin. Choose the Lanza when the basin and the room are square-edged, or when you want a closed spout that does not put the water on display.

No waste comes with this tap, so add the matt black slotted basin waste if your basin has an overflow, or the unslotted version if it does not. To carry the finish through the room we stock a matt black towel ring, toilet roll holder and adhesive wall hooks; we do not stock a black towel rail, mirror or soap dispenser. We deliver across the Republic of Ireland — Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford and every county between — free on orders over €100 and usually within 2–3 working days, with same-day Dublin collection by arrangement on stocked items. FAQ
Is a waste included?
No. The Lanza is the tap only, so add a waste in the same finish - the matt black slotted click clack waste if your basin has an overflow hole, or the unslotted push button if it does not. A matt black tap with a chrome waste is the mismatch we see most often, and the two sit close enough together that it is always noticed.
Does a square tap suit every basin?
It suits square, rectangular and counter-top basins, and modern schemes generally. On a traditional round pedestal basin a square body can look imposed rather than chosen - a rounded waterfall like the Kinlin in matt black sits more comfortably. Match the tap shape to the basin shape and it reads as deliberate.
Is the ETAL Lanza an older or newer version of this tap?
Neither - there is only one Lanza. ETAL is ELLSI's own registered trademark rather than a separate range, so both badges come from the same production run of the same part, PDT-000716. Some manufacturers do run a trade line and a retail line with quietly different internals; that is not what is happening here. If a listing you are comparing shows a different code, then it is a different tap, and the code is the thing to check rather than the year or the badge.
How do I clean matt black without ruining it?
Soft damp cloth, then dry. Mild soapy water at most. Never bleach, limescale remover, abrasive cream or a scouring pad - these dull the matt coating permanently. In hard water areas around Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow, drying the tap after use does more than any cleaner. The upside is that matt black hides water spots far better than polished chrome day to day.
Will it work on Irish low water pressure?
Yes. The Lanza is rated from 0.5 bar up to 3 bar, so it suits gravity-fed cylinders in older Irish homes as well as combi boilers and pressurised mains, though flow is noticeably better above 1 bar. If your hot water comes from a tank in the hot press and the head height is short, the Adore Mini is specifically rated for gravity systems and includes a waste.
Does it come in another finish?
Yes - the same square Lanza body is available in brushed brass at €69 and polished chrome at €59, which is the cheapest of the three. For the full range see matt black bathroom taps.
